This article explains what settings to check if you want to make sure that 1Blocker is turned on and ready to protect you.
On iOS:
The first thing to confirm is that all 1Blocker extensions are enabled in your iPhone's or iPad's Settings > Safari > Extensions (under "General"). There will be eight switches related to 1Blocker. They are responsible for specific rule categories. Our extensions do not slow down Safari, therefore to make it more convenient for you, we recommend enabling all of them in your device's Settings and managing content blocking in the 1Blocker app instead.
Now it's worth checking whether these categories are turned on in the app itself. You just need to open the 1Blocker app and enable content blocking categories you are interested in. Done, you are all set.
On macOS:
On macOS devices, the process is pretty similar. After the installation is completed, in the Safari browser, go to Safari > Preferences > Extensions, and enable all the checkboxes related to 1Blocker.
By the way, there will be a separate 1Blocker Actions extension. Even though it is optional, it is also very useful:
- It is responsible for iCloud sync and cloud rule updates
- It shows what exactly was blocked on web pages you visit
- It lets you quickly allow domains, hides page elements, makes sites https-only, and more
After enabling the extensions, please, launch the app at least once to make sure that the blocking categories you are interested in are activated there as well.
1Blocker doesn't seem to be working?
In case everything is set as described above, but it looks like the blocking rules are still not applied, it is worth re-toggling all default and custom categories in the app even if they don't contain any rules. It will make Safari sync the rules once again.
Also, the system may change some essential settings after iOS/macOS updates. So you can additionally check if the "All Websites" toggle is green in iOS Settings > Safari > Content Blockers (under "Settings for Websites") on iOS and if Content Blockers are enabled on all websites in Safari > Preferences > Websites > Content Blockers on macOS.
Finally, reinstalling the app may also help Safari reconfigure the extensions.
